Statement of Commitment
In 2008 the New Zealand Post Group Executive Team thought long and hard about what being a good corporate citizen means, and what true corporate responsibility would look like in daily working life. They crystallised their thinking into the five principles that make up the Statement of Commitment below:
- We will be a good employer, treating our people fairly and with respect, and valuing their diversity. We are committed to creating a workplace that makes people want to join, stay and work to their full potential. Our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our people is a priority;
- We will deliver to our customers what we have promised; we will listen to them and involve them in our solutions and innovations;
- We will work with our suppliers to develop long term partnerships based on best practice procurement methods which reflect mutually agreeable codes of conduct and respect basic human rights;
- We will consider the impacts of our business on the communities in which we operate, and we will engage with our community stakeholders. We will find opportunities to use our capabilities to add value to communities where they need it.
- We will help to protect the environment by better understanding, managing and measuring our environment impacts and minimise the carbon footprint of the assets in our care by 12% in 2012, while continuing the sustainable growth of our operations. In addition, we will also review our environmental practices to ensure their continued relevance.
This commitment was reveiwed in June 2009. The senior leadership team agreed that four of the five statements reflected our commitments and operating environment. The statement about our community focus was updated to better reflect the New Zealand Post Group's active focus on managing the impacts of its business operations on communities as well as the action that the Group will undertake to work with communities to add value in their areas of need.
Overall this commitment applies to all our operations, including New Zealand Post Group subsidiaries. We also encourage it among businesses in which we have a financial interest.
