New Zealand Post has just issued a limited edition legal tender coin to mark the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™. High demand is anticipated with the All Whites qualifying for the finals.
"Following the very exciting match on Saturday night in Wellington, we are delighted to celebrate our country's victory and recognise New Zealand's upcoming involvement in next year's football world cup," said James Te Puni, Director Sales and Marketing, New Zealand Post Coins.
"Interest in this coin has been strong, but following New Zealand's historic win on Saturday, we expect demand for this coin to escalate," Mr Te Puni said.
The coin is the only legal tender New Zealand coin to be officially authorised by FIFA and has been released as part of an international programme to commemorate the 2010 tournament.
The pure (0.999) silver New Zealand coin, designed in Wellington, features a footballer, silver fern and stylised New Zealand koru on the reverse. The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, of England.
Only 1,500 of these coins will be available in New Zealand with this official New Zealand Post packaging.
The coins are presented in a leatherette presentation case and are accompanied by an authentication booklet.
