Increase in service at Onehunga PostShop

20 October 2009

New Zealand Post is about to offer its customers additional services at its Onehunga PostShop.

The additional services, including an in-store banking consultant and loan application approval, are a response to increased customer need in the area, particularly for financial services.

The banking consultant and home loan approvals will be available from 2 November.

The changes are the result of a review of the wider Onehunga area where customer demand is growing rapidly and is expected to continue to do so into the future.

Regional Sales and Service Manager for Southern Auckland Phil Chalmers said that New Zealand Post has seen an increase in demand for banking services in the Onehunga area and the additional services and space are aimed at meeting that demand.

"Onehunga customers will now be offered New Zealand Post’s highest service levels including an on-site banking consultant to approve home loan applications," said Mr Chalmers.

The PostShop will be managed in the short term as a New Zealand Post-owned store and New Zealand Post is hopeful that it will be franchised in the longer term and possibly relocated to another site.  At that time it is expected it will undergo a refurbishment which will include the new-look PostShop design and layout.

Until 30 September the PostShop was operated as a franchise through another host business.  The franchisee has since chosen to focus on other business interests and the shop space is now being used solely for a full suite of New Zealand Post and Kiwibank services including Kiwibank loan approvals

Mr Chalmers says he would like to thank franchisees who have managed the Onehunga PostShop franchise since 2002.  "They have taken the Onehunga store to a point when expansion is necessary," he said.

In the past 12 months New Zealand Post has completed over 20 changes to its network of over 300 PostShops, which have included the opening of several PostShops, refurbishments and in a few cases a reduction in the level of services provided to align with the needs of the majority of customers.
