Demand for high quality New Zealand art pieces is growing despite the economic downturn.
This growth is behind REAL Aotearoa’s decision to open a new store in downtown Wellington – its third outlet nationwide. The store was officially opened today.
"All three REAL Aotearoa stores are stylish galleries of works representing current and aspiring New Zealand artists," said Jane Fahy, Product Buyer for REAL Aotearoa. "We've continued to grow our distinctive selection of New Zealand art pieces that express our country, people, places and passions.
"By working with artists directly we know each object’s history from initial concept to final design. Our customers are buying authentic New Zealand pieces of various kinds including jewellery, glass and applied art works," she said.
The design concept for the store has also been inspired by New Zealand's people and landscape. Distinctive features such as artist Len Hetet's indigenous design, reflecting Wellington's history, are embedded on the walls and counter.
Sales and Marketing Manager, James Te Puni, said the decision to open a REAL Aotearoa store in Wellington was obvious. "Since launching in Auckland and Christchurch in 2006 we've seen growing demand from both tourists and locals for our premium quality New Zealand art pieces. As the capital city – and being a major cultural centre – Wellington was a natural choice for the next REAL Aotearoa store.
"The location Grey Street is close to all the major hotels and tourist attractions, and in the heart of the city's retail district," he said.
REAL Aotearoa, owned and operated by New Zealand Post, also sells limited edition stamp and coin products.
