New Zealand Post is working quickly to restore postal services at Mahora following the sudden and unexpected closure of the Mahora PostShop by the franchisee owner on 14 August.
Group Retail Manager, Michelle van Gaalen, said the top priority is to find another host business capable of accommodating the Post Office boxes and providing postal services.
βAt this stage we are planning to restore postal and courier services to Mahora as soon as alternative arrangements can be put in place. However, given the more complex security and technology requirements for the provision of banking and agency services, we are unlikely to be able to offer these in the near future.β
Further information about services at Mahora will be announced as soon as alternative arrangements are finalised. In the meantime, customers are asked to use:
- Hastings PostShop Kiwibank - 100 Market Street (1.8 kilometres away);
- Hastings Paper Plus PostShop Kiwibank - the Plaza, Russell Street (1.8 kilometres away); or
- the Stortford Lodge PostShop Kiwibank - 1100 Heretaunga Street (2.2 kilometres away);
- the Mayfair PostCentre - 806 Karamu Road (1.5 kilometres away), for postal and courier services only.
Mail addressed to Mahora Post Office boxes is currently being redirected to the Hasting PostShop Kiwibank in Market Street, and is available for collection over the counter.
Ms van Gaalen said New Zealand Post regretted the disruption and inconvenience to Mahora PostShop customers.
βI want to emphasise, however, that the decision to place the Mahora PostShop into voluntary liquidation was taken by the franchisee alone. This came as a surprise to us and it was not a mutual decision as the franchisee has publicly stated.β
Ms van Gaalen said New Zealand Post was advised of the closure only on the day it occurred and was therefore not able to provide immediate service continuity for Mahora customers.
