GeoPAF

Gets you closer than ever to NZ households

GeoPAF (the title is an amalgam of 'geographical postal address file') is a data product that matches the 1.8 million addresses delivered to by New Zealand Post with area statistics available from the 2006 Census. Each address also has a map grid coordinate and a link to the Property and Land Titles database maintained by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) to create New Zealand’s most intelligent and definitive household data set. Incorporating the entire PAF data set, GeoPAF benefits from the daily ground truthing and error checking carried out by the extensive New Zealand Post field force. You can use GeoPAF to enrich your customer lists with property information (such as property size) and Census area statistics (such as age group) or to produce high-quality mailing lists to guide effective direct-mailing campaigns. It can enable you to realise the true value of the most important list in the world - your own.

For more information please download the GeoPAF brochure (.pdf - 142kb)

Note: Statistics New Zealand has stringent confidentiality rules and no individuals, families or households can be identified from its data. Area information from 2006 Census is provided as aggregated statistics only.

Key features

  • Access to 1.8 million postal addresses and free quarterly updates
GeoPAF is based on a definitive, regularly updated file of approximately 1.8 million postal addresses augmented with statistical and property identifiers.  The annual GeoPAF licence fee includes free quarterly updates
  • Address level match to 2006 Census areas
GeoPAF opens up a wealth of information. For example, through the link to the finest level (meshblock) 2006 Census data, users can choose from over 50 specific demographic characteristics (eg. income range, age bands, number of children) to help understand the characteristics of neighbourhoods.  GeoPAF provides a link from every postal address to a level 2 meshblock area. You can access more information about the meshblock data set at Statistics NZ
  • Land parcel and legal address match
GeoPAF provides a direct link to the LINZ property and land titles database.  Every postal address contains a parcel id and address SUFI.  You can access the full property parcel and land titles database at Landonline
  • Quality and accuracy of data
GeoPAF is based on a unique Delivery Point Identifier (DPID) and map grid co-ordinates for every address.  This ensures superior accuracy of the GeoPAF data including a Level 2 meshblock code for each address.

To see if GeoPAF is right for you, we have created a 25,000 record Sample GeoPAF (.zip - 706kb) which you can download for free. The sample GeoPAF is designed to help you understand the relationships between all the files that make up GeoPAF.
