The safe and convenient way to have your mail delivered
At New Zealand Post, we recognise that our customers have different needs when it comes to receiving mail. So we offer a range of different PO Box and Private Bag solutions to fit your needs. Some solutions are best suited to individuals and small businesses while other solutions are better suited to large-volume mail users. For a small additional fee you can also arrange with CourierPost for a courier pickup and delivery service.

- Security: You don't have to worry about an overflowing letterbox if there's no one at home or you're away on holiday. With a PO Box, your mail remains under lock and key at all times. If you have a Private Bag, you have the option of using a secure courier service to have the mail delivered to your premises.
- Flexibility: The choice is yours, depending on availability of your preferred option in your area, choose from either a:
- Priority lobby or standard lobby to have your mail sorted and ready for collection when it suits you; or
- Private Bag for higher volumes of mail or a PO Box for lower volumes.
- Convenience: Collect your mail from one of over 680 locations nationwide. Most of our lobbies have 24 hour access or for a small additional fee you can arrange for a courier to deliver your mail.
- Early availability: We aim to have your mail sorted and ready for collection as early as possible.
- Permanence: Having a PO Box or Private Bag means you can keep the same mailing address regardless of how many times you may move within the same area.

Is a PO Box or Private Bag best for me?
In summary:
- PO Boxes: If you receive fewer than 50 addressed items of mail per day (excluding parcels), then a PO Box is ideal for you. For added convenience, PO Boxes come in two size options - small and large.
- Private Bags: If you receive more than 50 addressed items of mail per day, then a Private Bag is the best solution. Private Bags are available from a limited number of lobbies and Private Bag mail is sorted five days a week.

Priority lobby or standard lobby?
- Priority PO Box/Private Bag lobbies are available at most of our major mail centres. In a priority lobby, mail to your PO Box will be sorted and ready for collection from 7.30am each day. Mail to Private Bags will be ready from 6.00am.
- Standard PO Box/Private Bag lobbies are available at over 680 sites nationwide. In a standard lobby, mail to your PO Box or Private Bag will be sorted and ready for collection from 9.00am each day. Contact your local New Zealand Post retail outlet for availability in your area or call our Customer Service Centre on 0800 501 501.
Courier pickup and delivery
If it's more convenient, CourierPost can arrange to pickup and deliver your mail to you for a small additional fee. Please call the CourierPost Customer Service team on 0800 268 7437 to discuss your options.

Payment
You can choose to pay for your service annually in advance (PO Box and Private Bag services), or by quarterly direct debit (PO Box service only).
Annual payment
The first year's fee is due at the time you arrange to start using the PO Box/Private Bag service. We will then invoice you annually. The annual renewal fee can be paid:
Quarterly direct debit
The fee for the first three months is due at the time you arrange to start using the PO Box/Private Bag service, at which time you will also need to complete a direct debit form authorising payment every three months.* Direct debit payments will be taken from your account one month in advance.

Save even more on your postage costs when you use ParcelPost PO Box Priority to send, or have delivered, documents or parcels up to a maximum weight of 5kg to a New Zealand Post PO Box or Private Bag. This priority service offers a next working day delivery target (FastPost) at a Standard Post parcel price and a choice of two plastic postage included envelope sizes (C5 and Foolscap).

How do I get a PO Box or Private Bag?
Visit your local PostShop, New Zealand Post retail outlet or box lobby and:
- check the availability of PO Boxes and Private Bags in your area;
- read the PO Box and Private Bag terms and conditions;
- complete a PO Box and Private Bag application form;
- show an acceptable form of certified identification (Driver Licence, Passport, Community Services or Superannuation Card, HANZ 18+ Card); and
- pay the applicable rental fee.
Note: Business applications also require a letter of authorisation on business letterhead.
If you need to transfer your PO Box or Private Bag to another location, please talk to the staff at the box lobby in which your PO Box or Private Bag is currently located.
New Zealand Post offers a Redirection service to make sure your mail follows you when you move home or change your postal address, making sure that someone else doesn't receive your mail. You can redirect your mail to almost anywhere in New Zealand and overseas - and you can choose to redirect it permanently or temporarily.
