Sending parcels within New Zealand from Kapiti
As part of the Better Change Project New Zealand Post is trialling new postal concepts in various locations in Kapiti.
This is a trial service for sending parcels by post and courier within New Zealand and available in selected branches only.
Delivery
Parcels have a one to three working day mail delivery target between major towns and cities. Saturday delivery and delivery to New Zealand Post PO Boxes and Private Bags are available.
Packaging & weight
New packaging, in a selected range of sizes, is available when sending parcels using this service. The new packaging, and the postage on the packaging, is for the trial range of parcel services and may only be used in trial branches in the Kapiti region. The maximum weight for items sent using the packaging is 10kg.
If you prefer to package your item yourself, you can and send it from our trial branches. The maximum weight for a parcel sent from our trial branches not using the packaging is 25kg for sending within New Zealand.
How much will it cost?
The required postage to send parcels is based on the size or weight of your item and your choice of bag or box.
The base service is a standard postal service. Optional upgrades are available, at an extra cost, for tracking (+ $2), courier (includes tracking) (+ $4) and courier + signature (includes tracking) (+ $6).

Dimensions and weight restrictions include the packaging.
For larger parcels
If you have packaged your own item, you will be charged the greater of:
- the actual weight of your parcel (as determined by our scales), or
- the volumetric weight of your parcel
- rounded up to the nearest 5kg.
To calculate volumetric weight (kg) - measure the parcel's height (m) x length (m) x thickness (m) and multiply this by 200, eg. (0.5 x 0.4 x 0.3) x 200 = 12kg.

Lodge a standard postal service parcel at your local New Zealand Post branch or post it in the standard slot of a New Zealand Post street posting box.
