IRD number

Apply for an IRD number at your local PostShop and we’ll organise and forward it on to Inland Revenue for you.

To get an IRD number simply fill in an application form and bring it along with photo ID to your local PostShop, then we’ll forward it to Inland Revenue (IRD). You’ll receive your number by mail approximately two weeks after you've applied.

You need an IRD number if:

  • you have a job and pay taxes
  • you're a parent or guardian applying on behalf of a child under 16
  • you're a student registering for a student loan

To get an IRD number we require proof of identity, so you’ll need to visit your local PostShop
