Disrupted mail deliveries in parts of the South Island today

6 June 2012

Postal deliveries have been disrupted across Canterbury and the West Coast of New Zealand today, due to severe weather conditions.

The delivery of mail has been suspended in Greymouth and its outlying areas, Rangiora and Kaiapoi, Ashburton and Christchurch.

Delays are also expected to mail deliveries in Westport, Gore and Balclutha.

"The safety of our Posties is paramount," New Zealand Post spokesperson Jaimee Burke said today. "We leave the decision as to whether to postpone delivery up to the team leaders in each of our mail centres, who are in the best position to gauge local conditions.

"We regret any inconvenience to customers, but I'm sure householders in the affected areas will understand our need to put safety first.

"Our teams are keeping a close eye on the weather and will work hard to ensure that any mail affected by this delay is promptly delivered when conditions improve," Jaimee Burke said.
