Kids, Blackcaps, White Ferns star at cricket launch
The Blackcaps and White Ferns of tomorrow pitted their skills with the stars of today in the launch of the ActivePost National Schools Cricket Programme supported by New Zealand Post and New Zealand Cricket.
Dozens of kids along with three Blackcaps and four White Ferns helped launched the initiative at Auckland’s Cornwall Park on 18 October.
There were some outstanding skills shown by many of the Have-A-Go (ages 5-8) and Kiwi Cricket (ages 7-10) youngsters who took part in fielding in mixed games featuring international cricketers and media and then at six different skill stations around the field.
Blackcaps Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan and Kyle Mills showed their bowling and batting skills as did White Ferns, Sara McGlashan, Lauren Down, Anna Peterson and Felicity Leydon-Davis all spent time signing autographs and interacting with the kids on site.
The ActivePost National Schools Programme now rolls out around the country and will also feature at the change of innings at a number of one day internationals during the summer and at domestic matches too.
