Limited mail deliveries in Canterbury today

8 June 2012

The big freeze continues to disrupt mail distribution in Canterbury but limited deliveries have resumed today.

Treacherous conditions due to snow and ice will prevent deliveries in much of rural Canterbury. Affected areas are: Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Hawarden, Waikari, Waiau, Rotherham, Cheviot, Amberley, Greta Valley and parts of Kaikoura. Also affected are Oxford and some parts of South and Mid-Canterbury.

"Improved conditions in Christchurch mean we can resume deliveries in the city where safety and access permit," said New Zealand Post spokesperson Jaimee Burke.

Posties are focussed on delivering priority mail to parts of Christchurch today where they can, including businesses. However icy conditions may mean we can't deliver to some addresses.

“We regret any inconvenience to customers and our teams are working quickly to catch up on the backlog of mail,” Jaimee Burke said.

Normal mail deliveries have resumed in Nelson and Blenheim after being disrupted early this week.
