New app GuideMe designed by students, for students
New Zealand Post has released a new app called GuideMe to help students tick off tasks they need to complete to get from the school gate to university, without missing a deadline.
New Zealand Post worked with students on the app which gives users a visual timeline to help them get sorted for university.
GuideMe walks students through the process of where and what to study, applying for student loans and allowances, halls of residence and registering the correct tax code, among other things.
New Zealand Post GuideMe Product Manager Amy Milbourn says the key is giving students the right information, in the order that they need it, as well as chasing them up with prompts before deadlines.
“GuideMe links students to the exact web pages they need to complete key tasks and puts alerts into their calendars making it easy to keep track of what needs to be done,” Amy Milbourn said.
Bella Grimmond from& St Hilda's Collegiate in Otago says GuideMe is like having a super organised personal assistant.
“I’m moving up to Victoria University in Wellington next year to study law, criminology and politics. There’s quite a bit to organise and all the information on the different websites is really overwhelming.
“I like how GuideMe takes you to the exact page you need. The step-by-step guide will definitely help me apply for my student loan, it makes things so much easier and less scary,” Bella Grimmond said.
New Zealand Post has also worked with a number of careers advisors around the country.
“They’ve told us an app is a great way to get students’ attention. With limited time and resources, careers advisors have said GuideMe is a useful tool to keep students on track,” Amy Milbourn said.
The GuideMe service, powered by New Zealand Post’s Connect digital platform, is just one of a range of digital services for students backed by New Zealand Post.
“We already work with NZQA on digital exam papers, and run the Connect platform which enables students applying to StudyLink for Loans and Allowances to submit documents electronically,” Amy Milbourn said. “GuideMe is a logical extension of the Connect platform and supports the work we are already doing with these organisations.”
