NZ Post Twitter campaign wins at Auckland social media awards

23 June 2014

New Zealand Post’s digital team gained expert recognition for its innovative use of Twitter at the inaugural Social Media Club Auckland (Smcakl) Awards event this week.

The awards ceremony was held on 18 June at Britomart Country Club.

New Zealand Post was awarded Best Use of Social Media by a Brand or Company for its #nzsecretsanta campaign, an online version of the Christmas game in which people send each other anonymous gifts.

#nzsecretsanta is the brainchild of Hamilton man Sam Elton-Walter and was adopted and adapted by New Zealand Post for Christmas 2013.

The key change was that people did not have to give out their physical address this year. By linking their Twitter accounts to a New Zealand Post online account, parcels were sent to a New Zealand Post warehouse and sorted there for delivery to participants.

The number of people who took part in the event grew from 900 in 2012 to about 1500 in 2013.
New Zealand Post Head of Online Services Rob Holmes said the award was a superb result of which New Zealand Post was extremely proud.

“It was a brilliant in-house effort by a number of teams right across the business and we’re thrilled to get this recognition.

“We had a great time working with Sam on the successful campaign and are looking forward to doing it again for Christmas 2014.”
