Polar blast forces delays in mail delivery

Heavy snow during the past 24 hours has forced delays in mail deliveries across a broad swathe of the country, New Zealand Post spokesman Michael Tull confirmed this morning.

“We apologise for the inconvenience, but we simply must place the highest priority on protecting the safety of motorists, pedestrians and our own postal staff."

A regional breakdown of the areas which are affected follows:

Gisborne Gisborne Mail could not get through as truck stuck at Dannevirke. Only locally posted mail from the weekend will be delivered.
Gisborne Wairoa No delivery. Mail could not get through as truck stuck at Dannevirke.
Hawkes Bay Napier, Hastings, Waipukurai, Waipawa, Takapau and Bay View. No delivery. Mail could not get through as truck stuck at Dannevirke.
Taranaki Eltham, Stratford, Manaia and Opunake. No delivery due to weather.
Wairarapa Masterton, Featherston, Greytown, Carterton and Martinborough. No delivery due to weather.
Manawatu / Whanganui Eketahuna and Dannevirke. Delivery is being attempted, but might not be able to be completed.
Wellington Brooklyn, Johnsonville, Newlands, Churton Park, Woodridge, Ngauranga Gorge, Upper Hutt, Stokes Valley and Manor Park. No delivery due to weather.
Nelson / Marlborough Nelson and Blenheim. Limited delivery due to mail arriving late because of weather.
Canterbury Christchurch and Ashburton No delivery due to weather.
Lower South Island Oamaru, Dunedin, Mosgiel, Balcutha, Gore, Alexandra, Queenstown and Wanaka. No delivery due to weather.
