Quake disrupts some Saturday mail deliveries

16 August 2013

Mail deliveries on both sides of Cook Strait will be disrupted tomorrow (Saturday 17 August) as a result of today's earthquakes.

New Zealand Post's Te Puni Mail Centre (in Wellington) will be closed overnight, as checks are made to ensure any potential hazards are addressed before normal activity resumes.  Other sites occupied by New Zealand Post in the area affected by the earthquake are also being assessed to ensure the safety of staff and customers.

As a consequence there will be no mail deliveries in the Wellington region - including the Hutt Valley and the Kapiti Coast - tomorrow (Saturday), or in parts of the upper South Island including Blenheim.

Mail posted in Wellington today, but destined for elsewhere in the country, will also be delayed.

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience, however the safety of our people is paramount, and we must take the necessary steps to ensure that it is safe to resume services as usual."
