ID requirements

Government legislation means that you must bring in ID to complete the following transactions at your local PostShop.

  • BillPay transactions of NZ$10,000 or more in cash.
  • ID & Apply applications for GE Gem Visa and Personal Loans.

When a customer is conducting multiple transactions either of the same product, or different products where the total value of all transactions combined is more than $10,000, we will also require ID.

Types of ID

Please note that proof of address must be dated within the last 12 months and ID must be no longer than 3 months expired.

The appropriate forms of ID* are listed below with the exception of GE.

For ID & Apply applications for GE Gem Visa and Personal Loans please contact GE.

Option 1

Primary Photo ID

  • Passport
  • NZ certificate of identity
  • NZ refugee travel document
  • NZ emergency travel document
  • NZ firearms licence

PLUS

Proof of address (e.g. bank statement, utilities bill, electoral roll, etc)

Option 2

Primary Non-Photo ID

  • Full NZ birth certificate
  • Certificate of NZ citizenship

PLUS

One form of Secondary Photo ID

  • NZ driver
  • NZ Defence Force photo ID
  • NZ police photo ID
  • 18+ Card
  • NZ student photo ID PLUS

Proof of address (e.g. bank statement, utilities bill, electoral roll, etc)

Option 3

NZ driver licence

PLUS

One of following:

  • Other NZ bank’s card with customer name and signature
  • Other NZ bank statement issued in the preceding 12 months
  • SuperGold Card
  • Community Services Card
  • NZ government statement (eg IRD, WINZ, Studylink) with customer name issued in preceding 12 months.

PLUS

Proof of address (e.g. bank statement, utilities bill, electoral roll, etc)
