The cost to send a parcel by Express is based on its size, destination and weight. You are charged by the greater of actual or volumetric weight, rounded up to the next 50g increment.
Calculating volumetric weight
Volumetric weight (kg) = Height (m) x Length (m) x Depth (m) x 200
Example:
A parcel with dimensions 150mm (height) x 400mm (length) x and 600mm (depth)
(0.15m x 0.4m x 0.6m) x 200 = 7.20kg.
If the actual weight on the scales for this parcel is 4kg, then you would be charged at 7.20kg as the volumetric weight is greater than the actual weight of the parcel.

International Express parcels and documents can be lodged at your local NZ Post store or from home via Print Postage Online.
All Express parcels and documents lodged at NZ Post store require:
- A white Customs declaration (CN23/CN300), available in store.
- A copy of the commercial invoice or an Export Invoice (NCPI025) (PDF - 49KB) is mandatory for ALL non-document shipments sent via Express service.
- A completed Export Entry (for items valued over NZ$1,000). NZ Post can complete this on your behalf for an additional cost.
- Sender, receiver and parcel content information that you provide on the Customs declaration form or on Print Post Online will be shared in advance, to the destination postal administration and national government agencies (such as Customs) for fiscal, risk, security and border clearance purposes, in line with national and international legislation. Learn more about Electronic Advance Data (EAD).
All Express parcels and documents lodged via Print Postage Online require two copies of consignment notes. Please make sure the consignment notes you print are readable and scannable.
If you lodge your Express items on Print Postage Online, you will need to put all the documentation including two copies of the consignment notes, invoices or other certificates if required into a clear pouch and affix the pouch to your package securely. Please ensure the shipping label is facing out. You can get clear pouches at NZ Post stores or at our online shop.
Terms and Conditions
The standard terms and conditions of the products and services offered by NZ Post Limited, including information on the extent of our liability, are set out in the Public Contract and the Postal Users' Guide. They are also available for reference at selected NZ Post stores.
Delivery Targets
For the purposes of delivery targets, the day in which the item is accepted by us is day zero. If you post an item, or hand it over the counter in a NZ Post store after that day’s final clearance, or on Saturday or Sunday, day zero will be the next working day.
You can expect that items will usually arrive at their destination within the delivery target specified. Because NZ Post does not directly control all parts of the delivery chain, we cannot guarantee that your item will always reach its destination within the delivery target. Delivery to areas outside major cities, or where your item is dutiable or held in Customs, may take longer. For information on our delivery targets for international destinations, view our guide to World Zones.
*PO Box delivery is available to selected destinations.
**This may vary depending on destination, weight, and size of item. Maximum weights are lower for some destinations
