Delivery targets

Normal delivery targets apply for all other sending occasions.
Remember that delivery targets are a guide only. We do not guarantee your item will arrive at its destination within the delivery target. Please refer to the Postal users' guide for further details:

  • Sending within New Zealand:  Delivery to and from some rural or remote areas may take a little longer. 
  • Sending overseas:  As we do not directly control all parts of the delivery chain, we cannot guarantee your item will always reach its destination within the target delivery time. Delivery to areas outside major cities or where the item is dutiable or held by Customs may take longer.

* International Economy Courier is available to the following destinations: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom and the USA

** Non-delivery dates: 25 December (Public holiday), 26 December (Public holiday), 1 January (Public holiday), 2 January (Public holiday).

Sending checklist

Before sending any postal or courier items please check our sending checklist for important information on:

  • Rate finder: Find the best rate for sending a letter or parcel around New Zealand or around the world.
  • Prohibited and restricted items: There are some limits to the things you can send through the mail or by courier. Please check your responsibilities as a sender as you must ensure your item is safe to send and is not prohibited or restricted. This guide includes links to New Zealand Customs and country specific restrictions for your additional responsibilities when sending overseas.
  • Compensation guidelines: It is your responsibility to ensure your item is covered before you send it. This guide includes our conditions of carriage; what compensation is payable for loss or damage to an item; which items are not covered by standard compensation or cannot be sent; what options are available for additional cover; and how to make a claim. 
  • Packaging guidelines: Whether sending domestically or internationally, this handy guide will help you safely pack and send your parcels. 
  • Packaging materials: These specially designed products are highly protective and lightweight to help keep the cost of postage down. However, you should take care to use sufficient cushioning material and seal your parcel properly to help ensure safe delivery.
  • Addressing guidelines: Make sure you item gets to the desired location by addressing it properly. 
  • Customs documentation: When sending items overseas please check our guide on customs and consignment documentation. 
  • Terms and conditions: Access the New Zealand Post Public Contract, the Postal Users' Guide and standard terms and conditions for our business customers.
