Terms and conditions for the New Zealand Post website, www.nzpost.co.nz and its sub-domains.

Applicability of these terms

These terms and conditions apply to the use of the www.nzpost.co.nz website and each of its sub-domains (the "website"). The term "website", when used in these terms and conditions, also includes the New Zealand Post Android app, the New Zealand Post iPhone/iPad app and any other websites owned by a member of the New Zealand Post group that link to these terms. We may change these terms and conditions at any time by posting changes online.

We use the phrase "these terms" to cover all of these terms and conditions and any changes to them. Please read these terms carefully before you start using the website. By using the website you agree to be bound to these terms. If you don't accept them, you should not use the website.

In these terms:

  • "You" means the person accessing or using the website and "your" has a corresponding meaning.
  • "We" means New Zealand Post Limited, its related companies, successors and assignees. "Our" and "us" have a corresponding meanings.

Please note that additional terms may apply to specific goods or services (together "products") or online tools provided through the website. If the website links to any additional terms as well as these terms for a particular product or tool, you must read these terms and the additional terms together. If there is any inconsistency between these terms and the product or tool-specific terms, the product or tool-specific terms will prevail.

Intellectual property rights

We hold all copyright and other intellectual property rights in the website and all content on the website, unless the content is identified as being the property of another party. You may reproduce (electronically or in hard copy) and use our content for your personal use only. In all other circumstances you must get our written consent before reproducing or otherwise using our content. If you wish to use any third party content identified as such on the website you must obtain the prior consent of the relevant owner. This includes content of websites you access via links from the website.

Accessing the website and its content

The website (and its content) is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We reserve the right to withdraw or amend the website at any time and do not guarantee that the website will be available to you at any time. The content of the website is obtained from various sources and is subject to change without notice. We will try to make sure that the information on the website is accurate and up-to-date, but do not guarantee that the content is reliable, accurate, or suitable for what you may want to use it for. Before relying or acting on any information on the website, you should get independent professional advice.

From time to time we may restrict access to some parts of the website to users who have registered with us. If you register and are provided with any user identification codes or passwords, you must keep such codes and passwords confidential and must not disclose them to any third party.

You agree to use the website in a manner that complies with all applicable laws and regulations and that does not infringe the rights of anyone else, nor restrict or inhibit their use and enjoyment of the website.

In particular, you agree not to:

  • damage or harm the website, or any underlying or connected network or system;
  • introduce any content or code to the website which is technologically harmful;
  • upload or post any content on the website (or use the website to transmit any communication) which is illegal, obscene, defamatory, threatening, infringing of intellectual property rights, invasive of privacy or otherwise objectionable.

In addition, when posting or uploading content to the website or make contact with other users of the website:

  • you agree that any such content may be used, copied, distributed or disclosed by us; and
  • you warrant that you own any intellectual property rights in such content.

We do not monitor comments made on, or content posted or uploaded to, the website. We reserve the right to suspend or cancel your access to the website if we believe you have breached any of these terms. You indemnify us from and against all losses arising from a result of your breach of these terms.

Our Liability

We will not be liable for any loss or damage (direct or otherwise) you suffer in connection with your use of the website or of any linked website or your use of, or reliance on, content contained on or accessed through the website or any linked website. We also exclude any condition or warranty that could be implied into these terms (but only to the extent that this is allowed by law).

Ordering and/or purchasing products on our website

From time to time we may offer products for sale on our website. Any information contained on the website does not constitute an offer in any jurisdiction other than New Zealand.

Our online ordering service is an automated order processing system used to purchase products from New Zealand Post. We will make every effort to fulfil orders placed using this online service but we do not guarantee that the products advertised will always be in stock. We will make every effort to ensure the descriptions and prices for the products shown on the online ordering service are accurate and up-to-date. However, we reserve the right to adjust the actual price charged if the prices shown are incorrect, and to vary our prices and product descriptions at any time and without notice.

You agree that, where you acquire products from us for the purpose of your business, any provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 which would otherwise apply to the supply by us of those products do not apply.

Title to all products supplied to you will be retained by us until payment is made in full. All risk of loss of, or damage to, the products passes to you on delivery of the products to you.

Delivery of all other products: we provide free delivery to New Zealand addresses within our delivery network.

Return of Collectable products: if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase you may return it within 14 days of receiving it. At your option we will either give you a replacement product or refund the purchase price you have paid for the product (excluding any delivery charges you have paid).

Return of all other products: We will accept goods returns provided:

  • you obtain an authorisation code from our National Contact Centre. (Contact us on 0800 501 501);
  • you return goods within three weeks of the date they were dispatched to you;
  • the goods are returned unused and in the condition they were received; and
  • the packaging slip is returned with the goods.

Apart from crediting you the purchase price paid for any product we have been unable to supply or any good that you have returned in accordance with the paragraph above, to the maximum extent permitted by law we have no liability to you for any loss or damage (either direct, indirect or consequential, including any loss of profit) suffered by you or any other person as a result of us providing our on-line ordering service or any failure or delay in providing this service or the products ordered.

The standard terms and conditions governing the goods and services offered by New Zealand Post Limited, including information on the extent of our liability, are set out in the Public Contract and the Postal User's Guide. These are available on our website and for reference at PostShop stores and selected New Zealand Post retail outlets. Further conditions for credit customers are contained in the business terms and conditions (PDF - 183KB) provided to these customers when credit was arranged and are available on our website. Additional terms may apply for specific products offered through the website.

We target delivery of orders nationwide in 2-5 working days. For international delivery targets refer to our International products and services in the Postal Users' Guide. Delivery targets are a guide only and we do not guarantee that your order will be delivered within these delivery targets. Delivery to remote areas may take longer.

Security

Information transmitted over the internet is inherently insecure. However, we have physical, electronic and managerial processes in place to protect the information we collect via our website. Any information sent through the website is passed through a secure server using encryption technology. All stored customer data is protected with secure passwords, user log-ons and other security procedures.

You are responsible for taking all reasonable steps to:

  • prevent someone misusing or getting unauthorised access to your computer system or to any codes or passwords you have to access the website, and
  • ensure your computer system and data are free of viruses and other forms of corruption.

We monitor usage and interaction with our network and services for cybersecurity purposes, we may use third party service providers to facilitate this monitoring.

Privacy Statement

We may collect personal information about you through the website if:

  • we are providing you with our products;
  • you are registering on the website to use any facility or online tool on the website;
  • you are submitting an application to work for us; or
  • you are posting any content or transmitting any messages on or through the website.

In each case, we will only use this personal information for the purpose for which it was collected. This includes the administration and evaluation of the website, improving our products and tools and providing them to you and carrying out credit checks and verification of identity. It may also include specific purposes notified to you on the website for specific products or tools. We may also collect personal information for a purpose required or permitted by the Privacy Act 2020 or otherwise required or permitted by law. Where you have given us permission, we may use your information to provide you with information about our business and products that we think might be of interest to you. If you ask us not to provide you with this information, we will comply with your request. We will keep any personal information you provide secure and will not disclose it to any other parties without your prior consent or as required or permitted by the Privacy Act 2020 or otherwise required or permitted by law. If we consider that you have breached these terms or any applicable law we may provide your personal details as we see fit to enable us or any third party to take court proceedings, enforce or apply our terms, or to protect any party's rights, property or safety.

We may record your visit to the website for analysis of site activity (such as the number of site visitors, the date and time of visits, the number of pages viewed, navigation patterns, what country users are from and what systems users have used to access the website and, when entering the website from another site, that site's address). Some of this information will be gathered through the use of "cookies". A cookie is a small text file placed on your computer's hard drive or browser by a webpage server. If you want to disable these cookies, you may do so by changing the setting on your browser. However, if you disable cookies, you may not be able to use all of the functions on the website. Cookies from the website are not used to gather or allow the gathering of any personally identifiable information and are not used to track individual user activity around this site or around the internet.

Print postage online terms and conditions

General information

These terms and conditions apply to the use of print postage online. You need to read these terms and conditions together with the terms and conditions associated with the use of the New Zealand Post website and the terms and conditions governing the products and/or services available to you through pay online to post as set out below. We and you may also agree in writing to other terms and conditions and the law may imply terms and conditions. We will use the phrase "these terms" to cover all of these terms and conditions and any changes to them.

If there is any inconsistency between these terms and the terms and conditions governing the products and/or services available to you via print postage online, the terms and conditions governing the products and/or services available to you via print postage online will prevail.

If there is any inconsistency between these terms and the terms and conditions associated with the use of the New Zealand Post website, these terms will prevail.

By using print postage online, you acknowledge that you are bound by these terms.

If you use print postage online you are deemed to have accepted these terms.

In these terms:

  • "You" means the person accessing or using pay online to post. "Your" has a corresponding meaning.
  • "We" means New Zealand Post Limited, its related companies, successors and assignees. "Our" and "us" have a corresponding meaning.
  • "Print postage online" means this electronic service for the purchase and printing of postage to send parcels within New Zealand
  • "Our website" means the New Zealand Post website accessed through the home page www.nzpost.co.nz, but excludes other websites not operated by us that may be accessed through hypertext links on our website.
  • "Debit card" means a card which allows you to make purchases or payments electronically online using funds from your current or savings accounts.

Your use of Print Postage Online

The functionality of print postage online is provided for your convenience only, and you use pay online to post at your own risk.

Each time you use print postage online, you confirm that you have the appropriate authority to pay any resulting postal charges.

Each postage label has a unique identifier and may be used once only. Printed postage may not be altered in any way.

The standard terms and conditions governing these products and services, including information on the extent of our liability, are set out in the Public Contract and the Postal Users' Guide. These are available on our website and for reference at PostShop stores and selected New Zealand Post retail outlets. A guide to certain restrictions can be found within the sending Terms and Conditions.

Print postage online produces sending documentation based on the data that you contribute. You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the data you provide, including the weight and/or dimensions of your parcel.

Collection, tracking (where applicable), and delivery of your parcels are dependent on the print quality of the documentation produced. You are responsible for ensuring the print quality of the documentation produced. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, printing the documentation using a printer that meets the minimum quality recommended in the print postage online technical requirements.

Where any promotion is running for the pay online to post service, the promotional terms will apply to purchases of postage made during the advertised dates for that promotion only.

Pickup service

If a pickup service for your courier parcel is available from your location and you request a pickup, the following terms apply:

  • Pickups are only provided on working days, and may be booked up to 3 working days in advance;
  • Your pickup will be completed on the next visit to your area (if this is a residential area, pickup may be on the next working day). Make sure your parcel is ready for pickup in the place you designate, when you make the booking (or by 7.30am of the day of pickup chosen in advance). If the courier arrives and the parcel is not ready for pick up, the courier may return at a later time for a second pick up attempt – you’ll need to ring 0800 COURIER (0800 268 743) to organise this (it may be on the following working day);

Ensure you have checked that your parcel is suitable to send. Your parcel must meet the required specifications:

  • No Prohibited or Restricted contents
  • Sufficiently and safely packaged
  • Maximum Length per item 150 cm
  • Maximum Total Weight per item 25 kg
  • Maximum Volume per item 0.125 m3

The courier may refuse to accept any item that is Prohibited or insufficiently packaged.

Right to charge for short paid Items

You authorise us to charge your credit/debit card prior to delivery (or in the case of international mail, at the time that the parcel is weighed and measured at the International Mail Centre) with any unpaid postage costs where the weight or dimensions entered by you are found to be incorrect. Where short paid postage is unable to be charged to your credit/debit card or the payment cannot be processed successfully, New Zealand Post may charge a handling fee in addition to the postage owing. If we return the item to sender then full postage may need to be applied to resend the item. Short paid items with no return address may be considered undeliverable and sent to New Zealand Post’s Returned Letters Office and dealt with in accordance with the Postal Services Act 1998.

Changes to print postage online

We may change the functionality of print postage online including these terms, at any time.

You acknowledge that we are providing you with access to print postage online on a trial basis only at no cost to you. We may rescind your access to print postage online, suspend access to, or withdraw print postage online for use by our customers at any time.

For sending overseas, the trial is launching with International Courier and International Express Courier to limited destinations. Further international services may be trialled in future.

Local laws and regulations

These terms apply to the use of print postage online. By using print postage online, you confirm that you are not breaching any local laws or regulations existing where you are. You also confirm that you are not breaching any terms and conditions for using New Zealand Post’s website or New Zealand Post services accessed via print postage online.

Liability

We will not be liable for any loss or damage (direct or otherwise) you suffer in connection with your use of print postage online or your use of, or reliance on, sending documentation or data generated by or accessed through print postage online.

We will not be liable for any loss or damage (direct or otherwise) you suffer from the temporary or permanent non-availability of the New Zealand Post website or of print postage online.

Help is available through our Contact & support section or by contacting our National Contact Centre, Monday to Friday 8 am – 5.30 pm and Saturday 9 am – 12 pm (NZ time).

Privacy

In the course of providing you with our services via print postage online, we may collect personal information from you.

Whenever you use print postage online via the internet our servers automatically record information that your browser sends. These server logs may include information such as your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.

We will collect, hold and use, or have collected, held and used on our behalf by the licensor of print postage online, your personal information in accordance with our privacy policy and these terms. Our privacy policy is available on our website.

We do not collect or hold any credit/debit card information in respect of pay online to post transactions. Before providing your credit/debit card details, you will be transferred to a secure server provided by our payment service provider, Payment Express. Your credit/debit card data will be used to complete payment and will be stored securely by Payment ExpressOpens in a new window. . Your credit/debit card data will only be further accessed in the event that an item is short paid, in accordance with these terms or where New Zealand Post has agreed in writing to refund the cost of your transaction.

Security

The information you send is passed through a secure server utilising encryption technology. All stored customer information is protected with secure passwords, user log-ons and other security procedures.

Where you use a password for this service, you agree you will not use a password that is easily guessed or relates to your easily identifiable personal information. This includes passwords that are comprised of birth dates, telephone numbers and sequential numbers.

You agree you will not divulge your password to another person or store your password in electronic or written format.

Intellectual property and our other rights

We are a licensee of all intellectual property rights inherent in print postage online (excluding any New Zealand Post trade marks, which we own). You may use the information in print postage online in accordance with these terms and conditions only.

You agree to grant to the licensor of print postage online, NetDespatch, the non-exclusive and worldwide right to use, copy, store, transmit and display any data you provide via the application suite for the purpose of allowing the licensor to make, and continue to make, the application suite available to us and you.

You may use the documentation produced by print postage online and reproduce it (electronically or in hard copy) only for the purpose of producing the documentation required to send items using our services.

In all other circumstances, you must get written permission from us before you use, send or reproduce any of the information or functionality in print postage online.

We exclude any condition or warranty that could be implied into these terms (to the extent that this is allowed by New Zealand law).

Governing law

As between us and you, the use of print postage online is governed by the laws of New Zealand. When you access print postage online, you submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Standard Terms & Conditions

The standard Terms and Conditions of the products and services offered by New Zealand Post Limited, including information on the extent of our liability, are set out in the Public Contract and the Postal Users' Guide. These are available for reference on our website, or at any New Zealand Post Retail outlet. The following is a guide to certain restrictions.

Prohibited items

You agree not to give us for delivery any item that:

  • is illegal, explosive, dangerous, or destructive to send
  • is inadequately packaged or contains anything that is capable, as packed, of causing injury or damage to property
  • contains travellers cheques, deeds, negotiable instruments (including any bearer security, bill of exchange or uncrossed cheque), bonds or shares, credit or bank cards, coins, currency, precious metals or vouchers, gift cards, or tickets for any games of chance (such as raffle and lottery tickets)
  • contains perishables. Note: Perfume, aerosols and aftershave are some of the common prohibited items.

Restricted and fragile items

There are some items (i.e. restricted and fragile items) that we will only agree to carry if you comply with our conditions of carriage for that item.

Restricted items may only be sent if you purchase additional compensation cover for the full value of the item. If you send a Restricted item and do not purchase additional cover/compensation, we are not liable in any way, and will not pay any compensation, for any loss of or damage to such items. Restricted items include:

  • any item with contents valued at more than the standard compensation limit for the selected service
  • jewellery, watches, non-precious metals or stones*
  • collectibles, antiques, paintings, sculptures or works of art*
  • unused stamps*.

*Depending on where you want to send these items, their value, or what service you want to use, you may be able to send them. Refer to the section on restricted items.

Fragile items can only be sent if they are packaged to withstand transport and handling.

If you give us for delivery any prohibited item, or any restricted or fragile item without purchasing additional cover/compensation, or in any other way you do not comply with the Postal Users' Guide:

  • you understand that we and our employees and agents are not liable to pay any compensation to you for any loss or damage to or delay in delivery of, that item; and
  • you agree to pay us for any resulting liability, costs, damage or loss of any kind.

Packaging

Packaging is the responsibility of the Sender and provision of complimentary packaging and/or acceptance of an item by New Zealand Post does not free the Sender of responsibility. The Sender of an item is responsible for any damage caused to another item by their package.

You agree that we may open any package and inspect any item at any time.

Parcel weight and dimensions - sending within New Zealand

The maximum weight and dimensions of any item that will be accepted by us for sending within New Zealand are as follows:

Weight: 25 kg.
Height, length or thickness: 1500mm
Volume: 0.125m³

Note: Volume is calculated by height x length x thickness. A more detailed guide to the maximum weights and dimensions of items is contained in the Postal Users' Guide.

Parcel weight and dimensions – sending overseas

The maximum weight of any item accepted by us for sending via International Air is 20kg. Lower weight limits may apply to certain services in certain countries.

The maximum weight of any item accepted by us for sending via International Express Courier is 30kg, however a maximum weight of 20kg may apply at some postal acceptance points.

The maximum weight of any item accepted by us for sending via International Courier is 30kg.

Maximum dimensions also apply. Individual countries may have lower maximum weights or dimensions. We may reweigh your item at any time to confirm the chargeable weight. In relation to items sent via International Express Courier, at our sole discretion, we may charge according to the actual or volumetric weight of an item.

Customs requirements and duties

You are responsible for complying with Customs requirements, completing all Customs documentation and checking whether Customs duties or other charges are payable on your item.

The Receiver is responsible for payment of any Customs duties, sales taxes and other regulatory charges made by Customs authorities in the destination country in relation to the item. In the event of non-payment by the Receiver of such duties, taxes and charges, or if the item is undeliverable, you will be responsible for paying such duties, taxes and charges if they are not refundable.

ParcelRewards

ParcelRewards ended on 7 May 2023. Discounts earned before this date may no longer be used.

Any discount used for sending internationally must have been included in a quote by 7 May, and the item charged on its departure from New Zealand within 30 days after this date. For the avoidance of doubt, you have no rights to discounts after 6 June 2023.
