International surcharges

From 1 April 2020, surcharges have been applied to international sending.

Please note: From 1 July 2023 NZ Post will be removing all monthly international surcharges as a result of global supply chains restabilising. NZ Post reserves the right to reintroduce surcharges should they be required in the case of a significant increase in operational costs. Any updates regarding international surcharges will be published on this page.

Updated 25 May 2023

NZ Post has introduced a temporary surcharge to cover scenarios where additional costs over and above ‘Business as Usual’ are required for domestic sending. For international sending, the surcharges effective from 1 April 2020 to cover increased freight and linehaul costs are now revised from 1 April 2022 to include additional costs within New Zealand to manage the flow of our domestic network and continue to operate our network through the period of the incident or event.

Normal services and rates remain suspended, and delivery targets continue to differ from normal.

These surcharges will stay in place while we incur costs above ‘Business as Usual’, and these may continue to change. We recommend you check back regularly for any updates to these surcharges.

"All other services" (excl. Letters) refers to Economy (previously International Air Small Parcel), Economy Bulk (previously International Air Satchel), Economy Tracked (previously International Air Satchel Tracked), International Air Parcel (previously Economy Plus) and the Courier (previously International Courier) and Courier Extension (previously International Courier Exemption) services. Letters posted using stamps, DPM, or on your NZ Post business account (using product codes IECOL% (previously IAL%) and IECOBL%*(previously IBPNL%) are not subject to the surcharge. Note that letters/documents lodged on all other codes are subject to the relevant surcharge.

* Economy Bulk Letter service using IECOBLIK% code is subject to the relevant surcharges.

The international surcharges apply to the customers with NZ Post business accounts only. For customers booking using Print Postage Online on NZ Post website, via DPM or lodging at NZ Post retail outlets, the surcharges does not apply as the way in which we calculate postage via these channels has changed after 15 September 2020.

For customers with NZ Post business accounts, the surcharges will display as an additional line on your invoices. Any applicable discounts on your business account do not apply to surcharges.

How to calculate the price to send your parcels with surcharges:

Service per item rate + [item weight in kilograms x (service per kg rate + surcharge per kg rate)]

For example, from July 2021, to send a 0.495kg small parcel to the United Kingdom (Zone D) by Economy international service is $15.4997 + [0.5kg x ($26.7217+ $7.5)] = $32.6061
