NZ Post confirms retail network decisions following review process

We understand how important these decisions are for local communities, and appreciate the constructive discussions we have had with our retail partners and communities through this process.

As part of that process, we received requests from 26 stores to review the decision we had made. In each case, we took another look at our decision by carefully considering all feedback and information provided against our established criteria – including accessibility of our services, local customer use, and how travel times work in reality for the community.

In a small number of cases, new information provided during the review materially changed the store’s position and we have been able to offer retaining some or all NZ Post services.

In some of these locations, all existing NZ Post services will stay. In others, stores will continue to offer only the services most needed by that community to reflect how people in the area use NZ Post today.

NZ Post has offered to retain the following services in the stores and locations below:

Update 7 July: Private Box services will remain at Waikuku Beach for the foreseeable future while we continue exploring future mail delivery options for the area. Customers with Private Boxes at Waikuku Beach can continue using the service as usual and we will be in touch directly if any future changes are proposed.

Update 15 April: The retail partner at NZ Post North End Oamaru has accepted NZ Post’s offer to retain some services at this location.

Update 31 March: NZ Post offered to retain some services at NZ Post Paekākāriki following the review process. However, the retail partner has since decided not to continue as part of our network. As a result, NZ Post services will end at this location on 29 May 2026.

Throughout this process, our aim has been to provide retail partners with a fair opportunity to provide new information that may be relevant to our initial decisions and we have carefully considered all the feedback and information we received.
