Growing social enterprise

New Zealand Post and Ākina Foundation have been working together since 2012 to grow the next generation of social enterprise in New Zealand.

Ākina Foundation sale at NZ Post House. Social enterprises are businesses that trade to support social or environmental goals. Typically they reinvest any surpluses towards these goals, rather than maximising profit for shareholders. They often offer unique and innovative approaches to address social, cultural or environmental challenges and opportunities.

Our partnership with Ākina focuses on building resilience in New Zealand communities by providing social enterprise training and business development services, in regional programmes, across the country.

Our people have the opportunity to volunteer as part of the regional hubs programme, offering fresh perspectives on the challenges or opportunities facing these purpose-driven enterprises and contributing a wide range of business skills.
