Sending to NZ pricing and product changes from 1 July 2025
To continue shaping a resilient network that is fit for your business needs and New Zealander’s demand, we’re making some changes to our pricing.
With evolving demand for parcel delivery and the continued decline in mail volumes, we’re also facing higher operating costs across both mail and parcel services. To maintain our service quality amidst these changes in the market, we’re adjusting the following product and service prices from 1 July 2025 (unless specified otherwise).
We encourage you to review your pricing schedule carefully or get in touch with your Business Manager to understand how these changes may impact your business.

Sending to NZ
As an NZ Post account holder, you can expect to receive notification of the price increases by letter or email in May 2025, containing your full pricing schedules. If you haven’t received these details, or if you would like to discuss what this means for your business, please contact your Business Manager.
Pricing changes to Courier services are effective upon the manifest header date or the electronic border agency acknowledgment of your shipment. If you submit this information by pre-alert by 8am NZT on Monday 30 June, items will be charged as per your existing rate card. Please note that any shipments that have not been cleared by Customs for entry into New Zealand by 23:59 on Monday 30 June 2025 will be subject to your rate schedule that comes into effect 1 July 2025.
Dangerous Goods
From 1 July, NZ Post will be checking that all Dangerous Goods (DG) items have been sent with the appropriate DG identification. DG identification should be declared at the time of labelling and presented in the manifest by including the DG ancillary code IWXOLDG. Where you have not correctly manifested the Dangerous Goods add-on, we will add this to your invoice after delivery for these parcels. This is shown on your invoice as IWXPROTEC_DG and is billed at the rate applicable on the delivery date.
It’s important you understand your legal obligations as a sender of Dangerous Goods. To be eligible to send Dangerous Goods you must meet the obligations of the current and any future versions of the ‘Land Transport Rule: Dangerous Goods 2005’ and comply with our terms and conditions. Before sending any Dangerous Goods, you must first obtain pre-approval from NZ Post. For more information on how to obtain pre-approval to send Dangerous Goods, learn more about sending Dangerous Goods.
Oversize surcharge
At NZ Post we’re constantly reviewing our processes to explore how we can create more efficiencies across our network for a smoother delivery experience for you and your customers. As part of our ongoing efforts to optimise our network, we face the challenge of how to address freight that is above our maximum sizes.
As a reminder, our maximum Courier parcel size limits* are as follows:
Length: 1.5m
Weight: 25kg
Volumetric: 0.125m3
We have this maximum size limit in place to keep our team safe, and to reduce any additional strain to our network. We have noticed that some items in our network have been exceeding these sizes, and as a result we are now implementing an Oversize Surcharge to these items from 1 July. For items that exceed the maximum sizes, an additional surcharge of $20 (plus GST, where applicable) will be applied per item.
* Other services may have varying service standards. Please refer to the specific terms of service for parcel size limits.
Addressing standards when sending to rural addresses
We strive to ensure that your parcels reach your customers as smoothly and efficiently as possible. To achieve this, we rely on accurate address information and the correct service being selected prior to sending. This is why addressing standards matters when you send parcels to rural addresses.
When sending to a rural address, please provide the accurate address and add the applicable Rural Delivery service when creating your label. A rural delivery charge is applied to all items sent to a rural location to cater for the extra costs associated with delivery. If you have not correctly manifested the rural add-on, the underpayment of the rural charge will be collected through one of two ways. We may either manifest this for you automatically where we are able to identify in the address information provided that this is a rural address, so the rural add-on fee will be included in your base service charge e.g. IWXOLP in your invoice.
Alternatively, where we are unable to identify this through addressing, we will collect this underpayment in your next invoice, this will be charged via a separate product code at time of delivery, and will be shown on your invoice as IWXPROTEC_ANC.
We are increasing the price of Standard Mail letter products. The new prices are set out below and all prices are shown in NZD (excluding GST).

Zonal Pricing
Zone A of Zonal Pricing will be expanded. This will provide an increased coverage of postcodes within this zone, meaning you can send to a greater number of receivers at the lowest priced zone. Accordingly, the size of Zones B and C will reduce slightly.
The NZ Post Bulk Mail Zones (.xlsx - 100KB) provides details of the postcode zone and delivery type for all valid postcodes in NZ.
Zonal Pricing rates across AdCard, FlexiMail, publication Mail and VolumeMail can be found on the International Bulk Mail Rate Card.
