Sending to NZ pricing and product changes from 1 July 2025 - questions and answers
Providing our service in an efficient way is very important to us. Regularly reviewing how we do things is key to continuous improvement, so our service is resilient and fit for your business needs.
Like many other businesses, we’re currently facing higher operating costs, inflation and challenges in labour resources. It’s our responsibility to continually deliver commercial returns and a sustainable delivery service to and within New Zealand. Part of that means that we need to review our prices each year, so that we can make the right adjustments to continue improving, whilst building long-term financial sustainability.
You will have received a letter or email from us to notify you of the price increase and what this means for the price you pay. If you haven’t received a letter or email, please contact your Business Manager.
Sending parcels to NZ
From 1 July 2025, the price of your products and services when sending to NZ will increase. As an NZ Post account holder, you can expect to receive notification of the price increases by letter or email in May 2025. If you haven’t received these details, or if you would like to discuss what this means for your business, please contact your Business Manager.
Customs, Clearance, Recovery & Handling are third party charges. We may show them as the direct estimated or current rate, or as an averaged/blended rate from a number of third-party inputs. These inputs and direct charges are not fixed for any period, as rate changes that are beyond our control are possible at any time. If your current rate or cost for such components materially increases at any time, we will give you sufficient notice (where practicable) before any changes come into effect.
We’d like to remind you that NZ Post requires accurate manifests for customs clearance, sortation, and correct and efficient billing. If you use our Parcel Label API or eShip these automatically manifest your parcel data. Additionally, you are required to submit customs manifests (in the gold standard manifest format) via MFT or by using our manifest API.
This is important as New Zealand Customs require full and accurate submission of mandatory data fields to successfully import and export goods across New Zealand’s borders. It is your responsibility to ensure full compliance with Customs regulations and to complete all necessary documentation accurately. Failure to correctly declare items or any misdeclaration of manifest data may result in fines, additional charges, or even the suspension of your service.
We’d like to remind you that it’s your responsibility to prepare and address items clearly and correctly. Please ensure that all items are packaged safely enough to endure a 1.2 metre drop. Secure packaging guidelines are in place so that your parcels remain safe and sound as they move through international handling, transportation and processing. International Bulk Mail
Zonal Pricing is our pricing structure that applies to all Bulk Mail products and charges different prices for mail delivered to different areas. Four pricing zones (A-D) are defined by postcodes and each zone has a different delivery price. Zonal Pricing applies to AdCard, FlexiMail VolumeMail, and Publication Mail products. A fifth tier (IPC) applies to items sent with an invalid postcode.
Zone A of Zonal Pricing will be expanded. This will provide an increased coverage of postcodes within this zone, meaning you can send to a greater number of receivers at the lowest priced zone. Accordingly, the size of Zones B and C will reduce slightly.

You can use the International Bulk Mail rate card and Zonal Pricing information to estimate the cost of postage for a lodgement. We have developed a system for files to be submitted electronically by saving but not submitting the file, allowing you to determine postage costs under the Zonal Pricing structure. Once you have submitted your lodgement, the saved file can be deleted.
If your lodgement does not meet the required specifications to allow it to be machine processed, you will be given the option of taking your lodgement back to make it compliant or being charged a manual handling fee. The per item amount of the fee will depend on whether prior approval to lodge has been sought.
