Grow the bank

Our plan is both to grow our core business and to diversify the bank into new markets – reducing portfolio risk and accessing new growth markets.

The challenge

The second stage of Kiwibank's growth – consolidation of Kiwibank as a truly influential New Zealand bank.

Our plan

Grow both our core business and diversify the bank into new markets - reducing portfolio risk and accessing new growth markets.

Kiwibank’s strategic aim is to become the most influential bank in New Zealand within the next decade.

From its launch in 2002, Kiwibank has enjoyed excellent rates of growth and built a strong retail banking business with a high proportion of residential lending. Kiwibank is now a major New Zealand bank with a strong and growing presence in personal and small business banking. To better meet the needs of its customers, it has broadened its service offering by diversifying into other areas of the financial services market, primarily wealth and insurance.

In October 2016, a new ownership arrangement was agreed on for Kiwibank’s holding company Kiwi Group Holdings Limited which will provide access to new streams of capital to support the bank’s growth.  Kiwibank remains 100% New Zealand owned with New Zealand Post retaining majority ownership and the NZ Super Fund taking a 25% stake and the Accident Compensation Corporation a 22% stake.
