Keeping your NZ Post account secure

Understand why your NZ Post account login details require updating.

You may have seen a message asking you to choose a new password when creating, updating, or accessing your NZ Post account.

Keeping customer accounts secure is important to us. As part of this, we use industry standard security measures to identify when email and password combinations that have been exposed in publicly known data breaches involving other organisations or online services.

This doesn’t mean NZ Post has experienced a data breach, and it doesn’t mean your NZ Post account has been compromised.

We understand seeing this message may be concerning, especially if you weren't aware that an email and password combination you’ve used elsewhere had been exposed. To help explain why you're seeing this message and what it means, we've answered some common questions below.

Common questions

No – Your NZ Post account and data continues to remain secure.  However, your email and password combination has been identified as part of a security breach unrelated to NZ Post, so someone may know and use the combination in other places such as in the NZ Post system.

As part of our ongoing security measures, we’ve identified that an email address and password combination used for an NZ Post account has appeared in data exposed through a third-party security breach.

We don’t know exactly where the data breach has occurred. We do know that the specific email and password combination used to log in to NZ Post accounts have appeared on leaked databases. This data breach hasn’t happened on NZ Post’s systems.

We use industry standard security measures to ensure customer data remains protected. If an email and password combination has been compromised, we prevent it from being used and ask you to choose a different password. This security control ensures our customer data is protected against data breaches.

There are helpful resources available that explain how to keep your information safe online:
