Why we’re making store changes
The way Kiwis use NZ Post is evolving, and we’re evolving with you.
Our current network is significantly larger than what’s needed for today’s mail volumes. Instead of sending letters, we’re seeing more and more customers sending parcels, picking up online orders, and returning items. With this growing customer need for more parcel-focused services, we’re adapting what we do to give Kiwis the right offerings in the right locations. A well-designed network supports our ability to keep improving what we do, all while becoming more efficient and sustainable.
What you can expect
From May 2026, some urban stores across New Zealand will stop offering NZ Post services as we reshape our network.
We’re also upgrading some NZ Post-owned stores and introducing new retail hubs in key locations. These hubs will bring multiple services together in one convenient spot, making it easier for customers to send, collect and return parcels in a single visit.
We've worked to ensure our services remain accessible to Kiwis. Although some urban stores will no longer offer NZ Post services, careful planning means our services will still be available at nearby locations. We're not initiating any changes to rural stores at this time. Please note that some other locations might change over 2026 if individual store operators decide to no longer offer NZ Post services. We’ll update those details as they happen.
