Oversize sending limits & surcharges
We apply an Oversize Surcharge to any parcels that exceed our size limits when entering our network.
Why the Oversize Surcharge was introduced
We know mistakes happen. Here’s why this Surcharge matters:
To fairly compensate our delivery partners
Larger items require more from our delivery partners who collect and deliver them, from more space in the van to more effort to get to their delivery address. This charge allows us to recognise the extra work involved and compensate them fairly.
For our team's safety
We are working to reduce the volume of oversized parcels in our network to help keep our teams safe while handling these items.
To keep our network running smoothly
Oversize items cause strain on our network due to the additional processing time associated with manual handling of these non-compliant items. This can slow things down. To ensure we are working as efficiently as possible, we identify oversize parcels within our network to make senders aware and help us run a more efficient and reliable service.
To correctly charge for our service
There is a higher cost to NZ Post to process non-compliant larger items. The Oversize Surcharge helps recover some of that cost.
