Sending from NZ pricing and product changes from 1 July 2026  - questions and answers

We regularly review our pricing to ensure we can continue delivering a strong, reliable and sustainable service. Like many organisations, we’re operating in an environment where costs continue to rise.

These changes mean we can continue managing international deliveries reliably as operating costs rise. We remain focused on strong cross‑border performance, processing efficiency, and dependable delivery for your customers.

We usually update our prices on 1 July, but this year we need to adjust international rates a little earlier to align with changes that have impacted the cost of international sending. It includes:

  • Changes to requirements for duty/tax collection and payment (including US and other destinations);
  • Border charges: NZ Customs and MPI announced changes to the fees and levies to cover the costs of managing goods across the border.

These changes are significant and have resulted in NZ Post having to adjust our rates to reflect this earlier than we may otherwise have done.

While NZ Post reserve the right to change prices at any time in line with our Business Account General Terms, our intention is to not adjust rates again until 1 July 2027.

No, the levy is GST zero-rated.

The levies are charged in a separate line along with the shipping postage of the relevant parcels on your invoices. If you use Small Business Sending, the levies will be included in the shipping cost for Express International.

The manual consignment notes that have been discontinuing are:

  • OS007 for Economy Plus service
  • IEC001 for Courier service
  • CN001 for Express service

As the customs clearance requirements on the electronic advance data for your international parcels become stricter, manual consignment notes are no longer the most efficient or cost‑effective option for either your business or us.

Using an electronic lodgement tool helps ensure compliance with these requirements while delivering added benefits, including validation of delivery addresses, prompts to capture all mandatory information, and immediate visibility of available services for your item’s destination. This supports faster processing, reduces errors, and provides a more reliable, paperless experience for international shipping.
