Oversize sending limits & surcharges

From 1 July 2024 we will introduce an Oversize Surcharge to any parcels that enter our network over the maximum allowed weight or size.

Why the Oversize Surcharge is being introduced

We know mistakes happen. However, there are reasons we have chosen to introduce the Oversize Surcharge.

To fairly compensate our delivery partners
Larger items require more from our delivery partners who collect and deliver them, from more space in the van to more effort to get to their delivery address. This charge allows us to compensate them fairly.

For our team's safety
We are also working to limit the amount of larger freight that is in our network to ensure the safety of our teams who are handling it.

To reduce strain on our network
Oversize items cause strain on our network due to the additional processing time associated with manual handling of these non-compliant items. To ensure we are working as efficiently as possible, we are identifying oversize parcels within our network to make senders aware.

To correctly charge for our service
There is an increased cost to NZ Post to process non-compliant larger items. The Oversize Surcharge will recover some of this cost.
