About the digital customs form

The digital customs form is an online version of the mandatory customs forms for overseas sending. Transitioning from a paper form to a digital form will help to reduce errors, improve your experience and lessen the time you need to spend at the counter. 

Yes, the existing paper form will continue to be available for now. However, we encourage you to give the new digital customs form a go, as the experience is a lot easier and quicker.

The digital customs form is currently only available in NZ Post stores that have a digital point of sale sales system. There are approximately 230 locations across the country that accept the digital form – you can view a list of them here

Taking a photo is your digital record of what you have sent and its value. We are working to develop an automatic electronic message with this information that will be sent back to you.

No, the form needs to be completed in English. If you wish to provide an additional delivery address in a local language for delivery, we recommend writing this directly on the parcel.  

If the address you are sending to doesn’t have a state or province then leave this field blank.  

If you don't have a Postcode to enter, please enter 0000 in this field. This is something we are working on as a future improvement to the form.  

No, currently we cannot accept a PO Box as the Sender Address – you must enter a physical address. We are working to validate and enable the entry of PO Boxes in this field in the future. 

There is no limit to how many items can be added to the digital customs form. This differs from the paper form, which has limited lines and space to write. 

It is important that you provide enough detail about the items you are sending to satisfy international customs requirements. For example, if you are sending a sweatshirt and trousers, you should state those items, rather than ‘clothes’.  

If required, a store staff member can amend the description to be more detailed, with your guidance. Where information has been changed, it is critical that you review the information prior to signing the Customs Declaration/Consignment Note to confirm its accuracy.  

Unfortunately, not at this stage. You will need to complete your digital customs form in one sitting. We are working to enable this as a future improvement to the form. 

Unfortunately, not currently, but we are working to enable this. However, when your information is checked at the counter the store staff member will be able to fix any mistakes prior to you signing that the declaration is correct. Please note that store staff cannot edit the destination country or the address. If either of these are wrong, you will need to redo the form or complete a paper form instead.
