Poste Restante is an inexpensive service for receiving letters and parcels while you’re visiting New Zealand from overseas.
The Poste Restante service provides you with:
- a location to hold mail until you are ready to collect
- a facility to redirect mail
- a facility to leave messages
- storage facilities for parcels to be collected when ready.
You don't need to register - simply let others know which Poste Restante address you want your mail forwarded to and it will arrive ready for you to collect.

The Poste Restante fees depend on how long you want to use this service. Your mail items can be held for up to two months – they will be held for the first seven days free of charge, and then will be charged for on a weekly basis.

You can have mail redirected from one Poste Restante location to another within New Zealand.
Things you need to know
- We cannot redirect mail to a hotel, motel, motor camp or boarding house.
- After two months, any unclaimed letters or parcels will be returned to sender.
