Service Terms

New Zealand Post Limited (“NZ Post”, “we”, “our” or “us”) offers the Hold Service to individuals and business customers, so mail addressed to your address will be held at a NZ Post branch for the period specified by you (up to a maximum of 12 weeks in total including extensions). (“Hold Service”).

In order to use the online Hold Service you will need to sign up to a NZ Post account.

We may change the functionality of our Hold Service, including these terms, at any time by posting changes online. Your continuing use of the Hold Service will mean that you agree to those changes.

Use of the service

You confirm that you have authority on behalf of the company or the people at the named address to give the acknowledgments in this form and initiate the Hold Service. You agree not to use the Hold Service:

  • For the mail of any person or business that has not given you authority to do so; or
  • For any fraudulent or unlawful purpose.

The Service does NOT cover holding:

  • Part of the mail to any address (i.e. all mail to the same address must be held);
  • Courier items;
  • Mail and parcels delivered by local or international postal operators that are not NZ Post; or
  • Newspapers and circulars.

Held mail cannot be accessed for the duration of the Hold service term.

When your Hold Service term expires, or is cancelled, we will deliver the mail as it is addressed (unless you use our Redirection service to redirect mail for that address to a new address).

If you have made a Hold service request online, you are able to amend your Hold service request (extending, reducing and cancelling) online using your Hold service reference number and the email address you provided at purchase. However, if you have put mail on hold at an NZ Post store and you wish to amend your Hold service, you'll need to go back to a NZ Post store to action your request. You will be required to provide proof of identification where amendments are made at a NZ Post store as amendments can only be made by an occupant of the address or an authorised agent of the person who made the original request. Please note that fees will apply to all Hold service extensions.

Current fees can be found at: www.nzpost.co.nz/personal/receiving-mail/hold-mail#fees

If you have paid for a Hold service request and cancelled it before it starts, you are eligible for a refund. Please contact our Customer Care Centre for further details.
