International Air Satchel service is a semi-tracked sending option to send large amounts of letters and small parcels up to 2kg on a regular basis through International Air.
International Air Satchel service has a 3 to 10 working day delivery target. It is a satchel lodgement option available to customers with an NZ Post Business Account for mailings of over 50 International Air letters and small parcels (up to 2kg per item) or lodgements with postage of NZ$100 or more.
The supplied satchel makes your letters and parcels easy to lodge, and free pick up may be available.
Key benefits
- Convenient and easy to use: simply put all your International Air letters and parcels (up to 2kg per item) into the blue satchel provided by NZ Post and complete an IBP009 consignment note.
- Free pick up: the satchels are collected by courier free of charge, on a pre-arranged basis.
- Visibility: it is a semi-tracked product offering visibility of key points until the point of arrival at destination, provided the shipping label was generated via a NZ Post electronic lodgement tool (such as eShip or APIs).
- Only pay for what you send: parcels are charged using continuous weight pricing. This means you will pay for the actual weight of your parcel in 10g increments.
- Postage is GST zero rated on all international items: you'll save administration time and improve cash flow, because you don't have to pay GST on the items you send and claim it back later.
Lodgement
A minimum of NZ$100 postage or 50 items per lodgement applies. Only one lodgement may be made per day.
International Air Satchel mail must be lodged in a blue satchel provided by NZ Post.
Required postage
The required postage to send your items up to 2kg by International Air Satchel is GST zero rated.
The minimum chargeable weight for International Air Satchel is 100g per parcel. Rolls and tubes are charged as parcels.

Sending items by International Air Satchel
To send your letters by International Air Satchel service you need to:
- Send paper-based written or printed documents only;
- Put your return address and postcode on the top left corner or the back of each item.
- Ensure your PermitPost indicia is on the top right corner.
- Ensure all information on the address label and any Customs declaration (if required) is in English.
To send your parcels by International Air Satchel service you need to:
- Put an International Air service indicator on each item.
- Complete a green Customs Declaration (OS008a) or an electronic shipping label generated via a NZ Post electronic lodgement tool with the sender, receiver and the parcel content information written in English. For the electronic shipping labels, only the country associated with the receiver’s details needs to be provided in English.
- Include a copy of the commercial invoice or an Export Invoice (NCPI025) (PDF - 49KB) if your parcel is being sent as part of a commercial transaction.
- Complete the consignment note (IBP009) listing all the items to be lodged.
- Remove the customer copy of the consignment note.
- Put all your mail into a blue International Air satchel.
- Put your completed consignment note in the pouch on the front of the satchel.
- Ensure your Return to Sender card is in the small pocket or sitting on top of your consignment note, with the International Mail Service Centre address facing out.
- Put the satchel with the rest of your NZ Post items for courier pick up.

Things you need to know
There are a few other things you need to know about this service:
- The information contained within the declaration may be electronically transmitted to the destination postal administration and national government agencies (such as Customs) in advance of arrival for purposes such as fiscal, risk, security and border clearance, in line with national and international legislation. Learn more about Electronic Advance Data (EAD).
- A service fee $5 (GST zero-rated, RRP) will be applied and invoiced if a manual green Customs declaration form is used, to cover the EAD capture cost, processing and administration.

- Find out if you’ll be compensated if your item goes missing or gets damaged and how much you may be entitle to subject to your compliance with our terms and conditions. No compensation is payable for loss of or damage to letter items sent by International Air Satchel service. Customers may send International Air Satchel parcel items (and may be entitled to a compensation limit of) up to NZ$250 in value.

Delivery Targets
For the purposes of delivery targets, the day in which the item is accepted by us is day zero. If you post an item, or hand it over the counter in a New Zealand Post retail outlet after that day’s final clearance, or on Saturday or Sunday, day zero will be the next working day.
You can expect that items will usually arrive at their destination within the delivery target specified. Because New Zealand Post does not directly control all parts of the delivery chain, we cannot guarantee that your item will always reach its destination within the delivery target. Delivery to areas outside major cities, or where your item is dutiable or held in Customs, may take longer.
