Sending items by International Courier

You’ll need the following to send with International Courier:

  • A completed orange consignment note (IEC001) or an electronic shipping label generated via a NZ Post electronic lodgement tool (such as eShip or APIs) with the sender, receiver and the parcel content information written in English (for the electronic shipping labels only the country associated with the receiver’s details needs to be provided in English)
  • An Export Invoice (NCPI025) (PDF - 49KB), if the items being sent are part of a commercial transaction
  • A completed Export Entry (for items valued over NZ$1,000). NZ Post can complete this on your behalf for an additional cost.

Lodge your mail at your local NZ Post retail outlet and pay the required postage. Free pick up from commercial premises may be available for NZ Post Account customers. Contact your Business Manager to enquire.

Things you need to know

There are a few other things you need to know about this service:

  • All parcels sent internationally require a Customs declaration.
  • A service fee of $5 (RRP) is charged to cover the electronic data capture cost, processing and administration fee. If you have a business account and you do not use a consignment note generated from a NZ Post electronic lodgement system, you will see the service fee separately on your invoice.
  • The information contained within the declaration may be electronically transmitted to the destination postal administration and national government agencies (such as Customs) in advance of arrival for fiscal, risk, security and border clearance purposes, in line with national and international legislation. Learn more about Electronic Advance Data (EAD).
  • Use this service if your parcel is up to 30kg. If it’s over 30kg it should be sent via oversized items
  • For the latest updates on affected delivery times or items we temporarily cannot accept, please visit our international delivery updates page.
  • Ensure your item is safe to send by checking our prohibited and restricted items information.

  • Find out if you’ll be compensated if your item goes missing or gets damaged and how much you may be entitled to subject to your compliance with our terms and conditions.
  • Our Rate Finder provides estimates applicable when sending via NZ Post retail outlets or via Print Postage Online only. When using Print Postage Online, the results are only as accurate as your estimation/measurement of the size, weight and value of your mail item. Customers with a NZ Post business account should refer to their pricing guide for postage.

Terms and conditions

The standard terms and conditions of the products and services offered by New Zealand Post Limited, including information on the extent of our liability, are set out in the Public Contract and the Postal Users' Guide. They are also available for reference at PostShop stores and selected New Zealand Post retail outlets.

Delivery Targets

For the purposes of delivery targets, the day in which the item is accepted by us is day zero. If you post an item, or hand it over the counter in a New Zealand Post retail outlet after that day’s final clearance, or on Saturday or Sunday, day zero will be the next working day.

Delivery to areas outside major cities, or where your item is dutiable or held in Customs, may take longer. For information on our delivery targets for international destinations, view our guide to World Zones.

Required postage

The required postage is the value of postage required for New Zealand Post to carry the item. Actual price paid may vary instore. The required postage and specifications are subject to change.
