How it works

Verify ID

Login to your NZ Post account (or create a new account – it’s easy and free). Verify your personal details with ID – such as your passport or driver's license.

Enter address

2. Enter redirect details

Add the redirect address, choose a redirect period (2, 4, 6 or 12 months) and pay the redirect fee by credit or debit card.

Get confirmed

3. Get confirmation

We'll send you an email or letter confirming that it’s done. It takes 3 working days if you applied online, or 5 if done at a NZ Post retail outlet.

  • Any amendments or extensions to a redirect are charged at the household/individual price, even if you are a senior citizen.
  • If you’re a senior citizen and apply online, the first two months are free it’s the same old and new address.

Moving premises? Redirect your business mail from up to and including 2 months, to 12 months to a New Zealand or overseas address.

Frequently asked questions

When you set up your Mail Redirection Service, you have a few options where you can redirect your mail to. Your mail can be redirected to almost anywhere in New Zealand or overseas, on a temporary or permanent basis.

Residential and Business Addresses

Most redirections are done when you move to a new home or business and you need your mail which is addressed to your old address to be delivered to you at your new address. You can check for your new addresss using our Address and Postcode finder.


Rural Addresses

If you're moving to a rural address, you'll need to register to become a Rural Delivery customer before we can provide the redirection service. You can do this at your local Post Shop by completing a Rural Delivery Service Agreement form.

If you've already registered your rural address and are applying for your redirection online, you'll need to complete additional information when selecting your new address as rural.


PO Boxes and Private Bags

You can redirect your mail to a PO Box or Private Bag. You can choose to action this request online, or complete an Application to Redirect Mail at your local Post Shop.

If you want to redirect your mail to both your PO Box and residential address, you'll need to complete a seperate application for each redirection service.


ParcelPods

We currently do not offer any parcel redirection services to a ParcelPod location. If you need to redirect a parcel to another location, you can do this using our online tracking tool.

You can cancel your mail redirection at any time during your mail redirection period.

If you set up your mail redirection service online, you can change or cancel your redirection by updating it from your Mail Delivery Services.

If you set up your mail redirection service at a PostShop, you can either complete an Application to Amend Redirection form available from your PostShop, or you can cancel it by completing our enquiry form, or contact us.

You will need your redirection number, start and finish dates, and address details

Please allow 3 working days from the time of your cancellation for your mail delivery to resume.

If you cancel a redirection service that you've paid for before it starts, you can get a full refund. If the redirection has already started, and has more than a month to run, you may be eligible for a partial refund. Please complete our enquiry form or contact us.

It takes 3 working days to process if completed online, 5 if completed at a NZ Post retail outlet. Once we've processed your application, we'll send you an email or letter confirming that it’s done. 

The reason why there are service fees, is that redirecting your mail is a complicated process that involves multiple teams. 

You can apply for a mail redirection by visiting a NZ Post retail outlet. However, you save 30% on fees by completing your redirection online.
